Bharathiyar Palkalaikoodam

Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam a society Registered under Societies Registration Act and it was started in the year 1988 in memory of Maha Kavi Subramaniya Bharathiar. Though it was initially started at Kamban Kalaiarangam, Puducherry later shifted to a permanent place at Ariyankuppam in a sprawling 10 acres land.

The Bharathiar Palkalaikodam is funded by Govt. of Puducherry by way of Grant in Aid through the Directorate of Art & Culture and Affiliated to Pondicherry University offering BPA Degree in Music and Dance and BVA Degree Course in Fine Arts.

Degree Courses:

The Degrees BPA Music (Vocal, Veena, Violin and Mrudhangam) BPA Dance (Bharatha Natyam and Mohiniattam) BVA (Drawing Painting, Sculpture, Commercial & Graphic Arts, Textile Design and Photography) are awarded by Pondicherry University. The BVA Courses are conducted with the approval of AICTE. So far 20 batches of students successfully completed their Degree Course and left the Institute. Most of them got employment opportunity in various Institutes – viz. Govt. Colleges/Private College, Govt. Schools, Central Govt. Schools, Private Schools Self-Employed, Employed at Foreign Countries. At present there are 120 students studying Degree Course in this College (91 in Fine Arts Dept., 20 in Music Dept. and 9 in the Dance Dept. In Puducherry before starting Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam there were 5 National Artists and after starting of BPK 21 National Artists were emerged. Few students of BPK got employment opportunity in Teaching Post at Singapore, South Africa, America and France.

Diploma In Thavil And Nadaswaram Course:

In addition to the degree courses Three year Diploma in Thavil and Nadaswaram Course have been conducted from 2003-04 onwards. So far three batches have been successfully completed Diploma Course at BPK. In the present batch 16 students were admitted – 8 in Thavil and 8 in Nadaswaram.

Six Months Part Time Evening Class:

Six months Part time Evening Class have been conducted both for School going Children and Office Going People in three levels – I, II and III levels in Music, Dance and Fine Arts

The BPK students are participating in various Local, Regional, National level competitions. Wherever they attend the competition they fetch the Prizes, Cash Awards, Certificates.
