Brief of Activities

Government of Pudhucherry Department of Art and Culture.

• Honouring the Senior Scholars in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu languages with Tamilmamani, Malayala Ratna and Telugu Ratna Awards with cash award.
• Conferring of “Puduvai Kalaimamani Award” for outstanding scholars and Artistes in the field of Literature, Music, Drama, Dance, Drawing and Folk art.
• Grant of Fellowship assistance to students who are undertaking the research works on the life of poets Bharathiar, Bharathidasan and Savarirayalu Nayakar.
• Honouring Kamban Pugazh Literary Award for the best publication of poetic anthology, essays, small stories, novels and dramas in Tamil language, and Nehru Literary Award for the best Children’s Literary books published in Tamil and Tholkappiar Award to the best research.
• Financial Assistance of Rs.1000/- to indigent artists per month who are distinguished in the field of literature, visual arts and folk arts.
• Grant of financial assistance to various voluntary cultural organizations/institutions for construction of buildings and also for conducting literary functions, festival, conferences and exhibition.
• Financial Assistance of Rs.1500/- per month to the Tamil Scholars.
• Grant of Financial Assistance to writers of Union Territory of Puducherry to publish their books and research materials.
• Financial assistance of Rs.1000/- per month to the awardees of Tamilmamani, Puduvai Kalaimamani, Malayala Ratna, Telugu Ratna.
• Improvements and expansion of Puducherry Archives and Museum for preservation of past records from 1954 and other monuments of historical importance.
• Opening of Kamarajar Reading Room for the benefit of the public.
• Conduct of Open Air Cultural Programmes .
• Release of Grant-in-aid to Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam (BPK) and Puducherry Institute of Linguistic & Culture (PILC) for its overall development.
• Release of Grant-in-aid to M/s. INTACH for protection of architectural heritage in the U.T. of Puducherry.
• Conducting of various literary/cultural programmes in connection with celebration of Birth/Death Anniversaries of Bharathiar, Bharathidasan, Vanidasan, Puduvai Sivam, Tamil Oli, Sankaradoss Swamigal, .R. Ranganathan, V. Subbaiah and Saraswathi Subbaiah etc.
• Conducting of Thiruvalluvar Vizha on Thiruvalluvar day.
• Conducting of the mega festival “Fete-de-Pondicherry” every year with participation of outstation artists/local artists in order to exchange their cultural activities in collaboration with South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur.
• Setting up of a permanent Museum at Kizhour for the commemoration of Independence of Pondicherry from French Government.
• Conducting of weekly cultural programmes on every Sunday throughout the year to promote theupcoming young artistes.
• Conducting Book Fair in most befitting manner so as to cultivate reading habit among the reading public.
